JOIN OUR BIRTHDAY BOGO PARTY!

WELCOME FRIENDS!

On Thursday, my dear friend Alexis over at Laugh.Eat.Learn grew a little older and wiser.

Yesterday, I did the same.

Today we have invited YOU, and a great bunch of  our best blogger buddies, to
celebrate happily and belatedly with us!

We are so glad you could
join the fun!

Put on your
party hat, grab your noisemaker,
and get ready to shop until you drop!

Before you do, please take a moment to admire the
adorable caricatures Alexis
created using the
Build A Teacher Set
from Melonheadz Illustrating.

My cowboy boots just kill me with cuteness every time!
I have a western decor theme in my classroom, and my students would
get the biggest kick out of this miniature "Mrs. R.!"
It may have to make an appearance in my
holiday newsletter?!?

Speaking of my students, they helped me celebrate my special day in
a special way on Friday!  We enjoyed Snickerdoodles and Gingersnaps
with milk at snack time-- after our vocabulary lesson on compound words, of course!

The treat resulted after I had shared Memoirs of an Elf
the day before, and discovered that many of the children in my
group had never eaten a Gingersnap, which the story
insisted were the elves' favorite cookies!

I was shocked by this
revelation, especially since Gingersnaps dipped in milk were the
after school staple my Mom served when I was growing up!
Let me just say that both types of cookies were
a huge hit in Room #2!

Adjectives used to describe the yumminess included....
"Cinnamon-y!  Sugary!  Delicious! Just like gingerbread!"
The last comment resulted in a rousing read aloud of one of
my favorite holiday books!  Rest assured,
I used my best buckaroo twang, y'all!

At the end of our day, the class surprised
me with cards they'd made on Wednesday
with the substitute teacher!

My favorite card is the one in the lower left corner.  One of my little guys
who loves nature and all things Science-related took what he learned from
the mentor text we studied last week, and drew
a picture for me of a migrator, an adaptor, and a hibernator.

I told him that I was going to frame it and put it next to our
window ledge collection of winter animals and critters.
His smile, and my heart, were the size of Texas!

These critters were purchased at Pier 1 as a birthday gift from me to myself this year!
They were bought in memory of my father, who used to send me a check
along with a hand-written note or poem
every December 13th once I "grew up."

In the wise words
of J.R. ~

I remember that cold December night in 1960 when
you were born, Jen.
There's been a lot of "water under the bridge" since then,
but you've come through it...
 and you are a
stronger and wiser woman.
I am proud of you.

enjoying family time in Florida!
