Greetings friends!

Tonight I am embarking on a blogging "journey" after becoming addicted to Amy Lemons' site, Step Into Second Grade this summer!  I have also recently purchased many of her
Teachers Pay Teachers materials, and my students love them!

We are currently finishing up her literature unit based on the Henry and Mudge series by Cynthia Rylant, and my students have loved it!  Amy's sense of humor and humility inspire me on even the most trying of school days, and her ideas are creative and aligned to our new standards.  Most importantly, they are "kid-friendly," and  "just right" for my second graders!

I hope that as this blog grows and evolves others will benefit from the information and experiences shared.  I hope that the time and effort I've invested into 21 years of teaching will help me make a valuable  contribution to and participate actively in the educational blogging world.

Music is an important part of many of the learning activities that take place in my classroom.  I firmly believe that all children have unique stories to tell and heartfelt songs to sing.  I  tune up my guitar every morning and encourage my students to make a "joyful noise" as we celebrate their diversity and creativity.  Lots of laughter is heard and movement is often encouraged in Room 2. Sometimes it even keeps us sane amidst the sometimes overwhelming demands of our new curriculum initiatives.

As I work with the designers at www.thecutestblogontheblock.com to make this blog match my personality, I invite you to send your thoughts and impressions to me via e-mail at storiesandsongs2@gmail.com
