Are you BEYOND excited to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with your students on March 2nd? If so, then you've come to the right place! America's favorite author and illustrator deserves the very best, and I'm thrilled to have partnered with Party City to bring you decor ideas and more to make your Hat's Off To Reading celebration extra special this year!
Dr. Seuss Party your students will never forget!
IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES WITH PARTY CITY!
HAT'S OFF TO THE CAT!
My second graders are sure to smile when they are greeted by this sparkly
Cat in the Hat door sign!
BOOKS ARE GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING!
Room 2 will be all "wrapped up" in reading our
favorite Dr. Seuss stories throughout the first two weeks of March! This cute set of
character cut-outs made the perfect bulletin board display for our
classroom library!
CUTE CHARACTERS
I can't wait to see what kind of descriptions my students come up with using
these character cut-outs I've put up at our Writing Center! I hope
they'll fill their journal pages with action words and adjectives that
bring their favorite Seuss characters to life!
WHAT WOULD SEUSS SAY?
My plan for these photo booth props is to take and print each child's picture,
and then have them
create their own "talk bubble" project!
MAKE A MATCH!
I am not sure how this whole-group Word Work game will go, but my thought is to
write 11 rhyming word pairs on 22 balloons and distribute them to my students. On the count of three, they will then move slowly around the room to find their rhyming partner, read their words and use them in a sentence, think of two other words that rhyme with their pattern,
and then sit on their balloon to pop them.
If I am not feeling brave enough" to have them "hop and pop,"
or if the weather does not allow us to do the activity outside,
I may just tape the balloons to the walls of my classroom and send my little
learners on a rhyming word scavenger hunt!
Enough Dr. Seuss notebooks, rulers, bookmarks, mazes, kazoos, and stickers for
eight children are included in Party City's treat bag kits!
Morning work will be musical and magical, that's for sure!
I will be wearing my
new "thinking hat" as well!
Don't forget to include your staff in the Seuss celebration! We are setting up
a "Hop on Pop" Snack Smorgasbord in the teacher's lounge on Wednesday!
It will feature different flavors of popcorn, soda, Swedish Fish, and
Beezlenuts (aka M & Ms and roasted peanuts)!
For many years, my friend and colleague Pam has helped me coordinate our school's
Read Across America festivities. Because she is retiring at the end of May, I wanted to
give her something to remember our rhyming good times. I think
this door sign is the perfect Seuss "souvenir!"
