Boo-tiful Word Work
22 October 2016
Hello Friends!
I thought today would be a good day to update this post as the Halloween holiday approaches!
Halloween is a fine time to rhyme, and word sorts are a great way to build phonemic awareness and sight word vocabulary skills at the same time! I use The Ghost Who Couldn't Boo to launch this lesson, but any book about a favorite ghost will work too!
Set the stage for your students by explaining that they are going to meet Bugaboo in the story, a ghost who says everything BUT boo, and have them brainstorm words that rhyme with "boo" that he might say instead. Then either read the story, noting rhyming words as you share it, or introduce the activities included in this resource. A variety of familiar word family patterns are included, as well as a silly sentence writing pages that your students are sure to enjoy!

Keep calm and teach on!
