For me, it brings warmth, comfort, and flashbacks to many childhood meals. Bean soup with corn muffins made by my mother. Pasta Fagioli with lots of parmesan cheese on top made by my grandmother. Tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches made by my father.
Soup is easy to make.
Soup smells delicious and triggers happy memories.
Soup soothes a stressed soul, a crowded mind, and a tired body.
Soup can be shared by many.
As the Campbell's commercial used to remind us....
"Soup is "Mmm! Mmm! Good!"
For these reasons and more, soup makes a great staff luncheon choice when your colleagues need a big morale boost! Read on to find fun ideas on how to host one!
This past Thursday, my staff came together for a SOUP-ER BOWL PARTY AND POTLUCK! Teachers, administrators, and support staff all brought in a variety of menu items, and our lounge was decorated in a sports theme in honor of The Big Game tomorrow.
Not only did the first floor hallway smell delicious, everything tasted yummy too! We enjoyed simmering crockpots full of Tomato Basil, Skyline Chili, Mexican Tortilla, White Chicken Chili, Potato, Chicken Tortellin, and Broccoli Cheddar, as well as a variety of salads, breads, desserts, and beverages.
By the end of the day, our tummies were full and so were our hearts. It felt good to take the time to sit down together, laugh, chat, and just relax during our break time instead of making copies, grading papers, gobbling a sandwich at our desk, or answering e-mails.
The experience reminded us that we need to "do lunch" together more often, and we are already planning an "Eating Green" smorgasbord for St. Patrick's Day in March! I've pulled together the materials we used to organize our SOUP-ER STAFF LUNCHEON into the pack below, and provided some other themes besides sports that you might want to use.
