OUR FAVORITE THINGS DECEMBER BLOG HOP

Happy Sunday, Friends!

Welcome to another holiday blog hop that I am happy to be a part of!  As I sit down to edit this post, I am listening to my newest holiday CD.  It is a collection of old and new songs sung by my all-time favorite female artist, Carole King.  She puts a very snazzy, jazzy spin on the tune this blog hop is named for, so I cannot resist sharing it here and adding it as an "extra" on my list of favorite things!   Click on the link below and give it a listen!  I guarantee it will make you smile and put you in a festive mood!

Before I share more  favorites from my personal list, I need to send a huge shout out to Laura from Where The Magic Happens, Lisa from PAWsitively Learning, and Krista from Teaching Momster! All three ladies have been working diligently behind the scenes to coordinate this mammoth giveaway event, and I thank all of the teacher-authors involved for investing so much time and effort into it, especially during this busy month!

Because we value our followers and wanted to treat you to our favorite things Oprah style, we have put together the best giveaway of the season! My bloggy friends and I welcome you and
hope this hop brings you good cheer!

Take a look at the goodies we've rounded up for you!

7 winners for 7 prize packs!

My contribution to one of the prize packages above is a gift card to....

Target is my favorite store because it is a "one stop" shop for me on the way home from school!  I can get dog food for Rosie, chips and salsa for me, and new ink cartridges for my printer all in one fell swoop!  It also has the Dollar Spot, which is where I stocked up on all of the supplies I needed for our school-wide celebration of Right to Read Week last March!

Now here's the rest of my "slightly eclectic" (and amusing) list for your reading enjoyment...

My second graders "did the Math" the other day and determined that since I am turning 54 next weekend, my "next set of 10" is 60.....and "that is as old as their grandmas!"  HA!  Needless to say, Garnier's Anti-Wrinkle Roller, as well as their Moisture Rich Nourishing Cream, are two required components of my daily skin care regimen!

Bravo is my favorite restaurant because it serves the comfort food and seasoned bread of my Italian
ancestors, and is a place where my modern-day family likes to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and other special events.  My favorite entree is the Pasta Woozie because it is creamy, cheesy, and just plain fun to say!

My extended family--almost 25+ strong--has celebrated Christmas in Florida for over 14 years now, and we always enjoy a evening sing-a-long around a beach bonfire.  We have many guitar players among us, as well as some strong voices.  After the traditional carols, we launch into festive renditions of old and new favorite songs.  Don McLean's American Pie is always the grand finale!

Books of all kinds, fiction, non-fiction, picture, chapter, poetry......they have always been the foundation of my instruction across the curriculum. If I had to pick my favorites for read aloud, the list would include every book by Kate DiCamillo, Patricia Polacco, and Jan Brett.  Mo Willem is brilliant as well, and his Elephant and Piggie series--while simply drawn and written--delivers belly laughs along with important lessons in reading with expression and learning to solve problems.

I've extended my already long list of favorites to include three others.  Two are laced with sadness due to the recent loss of my dear father and my beloved Brutus this past spring and summer.  The third continues to be my ever-present source of happiness though.....

As always, thanks for letting me share my story.....and a song!
It is my sincere wish that you find many opportunities to enjoy
YOUR favorite things this holiday season and
in the coming year!
